George Mason alumnus and former track star Rob Muzzio, BS ’87, finished fifth in the decathlon competition during the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. He was one of 10 Patriots who qualified for the Summer Olympics that year.

The passage of Title IX in 1972 also marked the beginning of athletic opportunities for women at George Mason University. Mason's first women's sport—tennis—started its inaugural season in 1972-73.

In 2006, George Mason University alum Anousheh Ansari, BS Computer and Electrical Engineering ’88, traveled to the International Space Station for an 11-day expedition and the first female private space explorer, first astronaut of Iranian descent, first Muslim woman in space, and fourth private explorer to visit space.

On Wednesday, April 20, the first students of the International School of Law returned to George Mason University’s Mason Square campus to mark 50 years since the school’s inception and celebrate the many successes that followed.

On April 8, Mason Debate Team alums and university colleagues honored Professor Warren Decker for his 48 years of coaching and mentoring.
